Biography
Mr. Yong was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He received the B.Eng. (1st Class Hons.) degree in electronic engineering majoring in computer and the M.Eng.Sc. degree in optoelectronic engineering from Multimedia University (MMU), Melaka, Malaysia, in 2002 and 2004, respectively, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree, working on numerical modeling of integrated optical waveguides for light wave communication network.
During Mr. Yong’s undergraduate study in MMU, he has won champion of ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (Robocon) 2002 Malaysia, held by Ministry of Education Malaysia, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment Malaysia, and SIRIM Sdn. Bhd in May 2002. He also received the Excellent ICT Student Award from the Malaysia Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia in Sep 2003.
Mr. Yong started his career as a tutor MMU, and he became as a lecturer after obtaining his master degree by research. He has years of working experiences in education and R&D environment. Besides of active research progress in numerical modeling of photonic components for optical communication networks, he has deep interests and experiences in software writing together with electronic hardware design and development. He used to develop customised electronic hardware, especially in microcontroller-based devices, for local industries and institutions. His recent delivered products include optical protection switch, C-band tunable laser, C-band transponder, component counter for tape & reel IC package, GSM/GPRS remote terminal unit, RF-link data acquisition system, traffic light and street light controller, and etc. He has also experiences in delivering professional software trainings and short courses, such as Photonic Components Design Tools: RSoft CAD, BeamPROP, FullWAVE, BandSOLVE, LaserMOD, FemSIM; “Signal Degradation of Optical Fibres”, “Semiconductor Laser”, “USB Device Classes and Driver Design”, “8051 Fundamentals”, and “Embedded Software Engineering”.
