Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Sami Hajjaj is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia.
He is a Professional Engineer (PEng, Board of Engineers Malaysia), a Chartered Engineer (CEng, Engineering Council, UK), and a Senior Fellow (SFHEA, Advance HE, UK). He is also a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE, USA), an HRDCorp Accredited Trainer (Malaysia), and a Certified IoT Specialist (MIMOS, Malaysia).
His research centres on Physical AI—the convergence of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Intelligent Internet of Things (IoT), and Smart Manufacturing to develop intelligent systems capable of perceiving, reasoning, and interacting with the physical world. His work spans intelligent robotics, autonomous systems, AI-enabled manufacturing, Industrial IoT (IIoT), Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI, and Human–Robot Interaction.
Over the past two decades, he has led research and development projects across manufacturing, agriculture, transportation and logistics, telecommunications, infrastructure, healthcare, and the creative industries. His work has been carried out in collaboration with universities, industry partners, and government agencies across Malaysia, China, and the Middle East, translating emerging technologies into practical engineering and industrial solutions.
His broader research interests include the societal impact of emerging technologies, engineering education, STEM/STEAM education, technology adoption, and the responsible integration of AI into engineering practice. Through his research, he seeks to bridge fundamental research with real-world applications while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between academia, industry, and government.
Dr. Hajjaj actively supervises postgraduate students and welcomes research collaborations in Physical AI, Intelligent Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent IoT, Smart Manufacturing, Engineering Education, and related interdisciplinary fields. Prospective MSc and PhD candidates, research collaborators, and industry partners are encouraged to get in touch to explore potential opportunities.
