Biography
Ms. Rebecca Mathan is currently the Deputy Dean for Student Experience and Alumni & a Lecturer at Multimedia University, Faculty of Law, Melaka Campus. Her expertise is in the areas of Criminal Procedure, Law of Evidence, and Criminal Trial Advocacy. There were several positions held by Ms. Rebecca at Multimedia at the University, some to mention, she served as the Advisor of the Faculty of Law Special Interest Group - External Mooting between February 2015 to June 2016. She also served as a Deputy Dean (Academic), at the Faculty of Law from March 2016 to February 2018. She was the Advisor for the Multimedia Law Society, MMU from March 2018 to February 2020.
Her professional experiences entail her appointment as a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) with the Attorney General Chambers (AGC) Malaysia in 2009. She had served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Commercial Unit of the AGC in Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan. Later she was transferred as a Deputy Public Prosecutor at Kuala Lumpur Courts and last served as a DPP in Melaka Courts. Ms. Rebecca Mathan’s professional membership is as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya (non-Practising), a member of the Inns of Court Malaysia and a member of the Internet Society International.
She graduated from ATC, Kuala Lumpur with a University of London LLB (Hons) (Second Class Upper) and completed the Certificate of Legal Practice professional qualification. She was called to the called to the BAR and the High Court of Malaya in 2011. She completed her Masters in Law (LLM) in University Kebangsaan Malaysia majoring in the area of Intellectual Property Law and Information Technology Law in 2016 with distinction.
As a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) with the Attorney General Chambers Malaysia, she has served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Commercial Unit of the AGC in Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuaan. She was required to peruse Investigation papers; give order to investigate and other relevant orders/instructions; construct a charge; conduct commercial mentions, plea of guilt and full trials. She also served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in AGC in the State of Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan. She was required to conduct mentions, plea of guilt and trials in the Magistrate and Sessions court of Kuala Lumpur; peruse Investigation papers; give order to investigate and other relevant orders/instructions; construct a charge; under the offences under the Penal Code, Drugs Act, Gambling Act, Immigration Act and many others within the jurisdiction of the Magistrate and Sessions Court. Additionally, she served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in AGC in the State of Melaka. She was required to conduct mentions, plea of guilt, trials and appeals in the Magistrate, Sessions and High court of Melaka; peruse Investigation papers; give order to investigate and other relevant orders/instructions; construct a charge; under the offences under the Penal Code, Drugs Act, Gambling Act, Immigration Act and many others within the jurisdiction of the Magistrate, Sessions and High Court. She was awarded the ‘Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang’ in 2013 by The Attorney General Tan Sri Gani Patail. She was appointed as a specialist of Forfieture of Property Act and the Anti Smuggling and Trafficking of Human Beings Act 2007 handling Litigation and Consultations. During her vast years of experience, she also was called to give lectures to enforcement officers on the many areas of laws. She was always hands on in management duties as well and actively involved in organization of statistical meetings, High Level meetings and conferences.
