Dr. Nisha Kumari Devaraj is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE), Multimedia University (MMU). She graduated with a B.Eng.(Hons) Electronics degree in 2005, Master of Engineering Science (M.Eng.Sc) in 2010, and PhD (Engineering) in 2020, also from MMU. She has published 7 journal articles as main author and 8 as co-author, 6 conference proceedings and 5 book chapters. Throughout her tenure at MMU as a student and also a lecturer, she has been a recipient of a a bronze medal each at the 20th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX’09) and for her project: "Nanostructured Magnetic Materials for Heavy Metal Ion Detection" at the RICES 2018 and 2019, letters of merit from the president and vice-president of MMU for her teaching evaluation scores, book award for her graduation, as well the Dean's awards for several trimesters of her undergraduate studies. She has also been the receipient of 2 gold medal awards for her/her student's projects: "Removal of arsenate (As(V)) from water via adsorption onto surface modified magnetite nanoparticles" & "IOT-BASED REAL-TIME WATER QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM" at the iNVENTX 2023 & 2026 respectively held in MMU. She has also obtained a Best Paper Award for a publication based on one of her student's FYP project: "Predictive Modelling of Arsenate Equilibrium Adsorption Parameters," during the 6th Multimedia University Engineering Conference 2025 (MECON2025), held from 21-23 July 2025 at Multimedia University. Under her mentorship, 14 students have completed their Final Year Projects (FYP) mainly in the field of nanomaterials, nanostructures, mathematical modelling of heavy metals adsorption and IoT based water quality monitoring systems. Currently, she has 2 postgraduate students. At present, she is the assistant programme coordinator for the Master in Applied Artificial Intelligence (MAAI) programme as well as commitee member of the Industrial Training and Cadetship Committee in FAIE, MMU. She was also appounted as the Overseas Section Representative (Malaysia Section) for The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) from 2023-2025.
