Biography
Umar Nirmal received his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia in year 2008. He obtained his Masters in Engineering Science from MMU in year 2011. In year 2018, he obtained his PHD in Mechanical Engineering from National Defense University of Malaysia. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Multimedia University, Melaka Campus. His research interests are in the area of tribology, argicultural waste management, green energy, ergonomics and human factors, new product development, machine design and fabrication, drones and remote control vehicles for unmanned applications. He is a member of Malaysian Tribology Society (MYTRIBOS), Associate Asean Engineers (AAE), International Association of Engineers (IAENG), International Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He had served as a peer review panel for more than twenty different international and national journals. Being an active researcher, he managed to secure several research grants. He was involved in four different projects as a member and led one research project as a project leader. Mr. Umar Nirmal was the first person to discover the proper usage of agriculture waste namely betelnut fibre as reinforcement elements in polymeric composites for tribological application. Before his discovery, betelnut fibre husks was used as an insect repellent where they were burned openly in the remote areas in Malaysia. To date, he has more than thirty international ISI and SCORPUS journal articles, six international conferences proceedings, two book chapters and a patent.
