Biography
Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi (CEng, SMIEEE, MIEM) received his B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree from Imperial College London in 1999 and his Ph.D. in Electronics and Computer Science degree from the University of Southampton in 2004. He is currently a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, and the Head for the MMU-UKM-IMU IMU Artificial Intelligence for Digital Pathology (AI4DP) Research Excellence Consortium. From May 2013 to June 2014, and April to June 2017, he was attached to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center as a visiting scholar where he worked on machine intelligence for cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
Mohammad Faizal has published more than 100 journal and conference articles to date in the area of signal and image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision and biomedical informatics. He successfully secured many research grants nationally (MOHE, MOSTI), internationally (Fulbright, IsDB, JICA), as well as from industry (TM). He is a recipient of several awards such as the 2016 MCMC Senior Researcher Award, 2016 TM GCEO Merit Award, 2017 MMU Excellent Researcher Award, 2020 IEEE SPS Meritorious Regional/Chapter Service Award, and 2021 IEEE Region 10 Outstanding Volunteer Award.
Mohammad Faizal is a member of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), which has helped greatly in expanding his research network. He is an active volunteer for IEEE, serving as the Chair for the IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter from 2008 to 2013, the Chair for IEEE Malaysia Section from 2017 to 2018, and currently the Executive Committee for IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific) since 2019. He is involved in organizing many international and flagship conferences, and has also delivered many keynote and invited speeches at international conferences.
