Biography
Lim Elaine is an assistant professor in Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) and a research member in the Research Centre for Advanced Mechanical and Green Technology (CAMGT) in MMU. Prior joining MMU, she was a research assistant in Monash University and had been working on research related to thermocapillary effect of thin liquid films. Lim Elaine has served MMU FET for more than seven years upon joining MMU as a lecturer. She conducts lectures, tutorials, laboratory works, projects for core subjects of the mechanical engineering programme, which includes EME4016 Heat Transfer, EME1026 Fluid Mechanics, EME1066 Strength of Materials, EME1166 Material Science, EME2036 Manufacturing Operations Management, EPT3076 Integrated Design Project. Generally, Lim Elaine acted as a subject coordinator in most of the teaching subjects and achieved at least 4 out 5 for all the subject teaching evaluation. Lim Elaine has also been assigned as the subject matter experts for a few Mechanical engineering core subjects related to her field of expertise. She has also been appointed as expert to moderate and evaluate internal research examination and assessment sessions such as work completion defence (WCD), viva voce programme conversion and proposal defence (PD) at Masters and PhD levels. In addition, she has chaired a few colloquium sessions at the research centre (RC) level. She has also been invited to industrial organized event to present a talk related to her academic and research expertise.
Currently, she is actively involved in research areas such as graphene materials and nanofluids. She is also interested in research fields related to energy and thermal science. Lim Elaine has nine publications including six ISI indexed publications (Q1-Q2) in the related research fields. She has also been invited to review ISI indexed international journal papers. Lim Elaine is the principal investigator (PI) or project leader for three research grants: Minifund, FRGS and matching grant in year 2018, 2019 and 2023 respectively. Currently, she is co-supervising a postgraduate student (master by research). She supervised fifteen FYP projects in the past five years as a lecturer. The projects are mainly related to fundamental application of heat transfer and fluid mechanics such as characterisation study of graphene-nanofluids in thermal application, application of graphene materials in thermal cooling system, substrate coating and waste water treatment, the synthesis and investigation on thermophysical properties of ionic liquids and Deep Eutectic Solvent and its potential application for energy efficiency. Lim Elaine owns certain adminstration, management and leadership experiences at the Faculty level. She has been appointed as the Assistant Programme Coordinator for Diploma Mechanical Engineering Programme (2020-2022). At the same time, she was the Deputy Chairperson of Industrial Linkage Committee (2018-2022). Currently, she is the Chairperson of Alumni Committee (2022 till present).
