Personal History:
In January 1996, Ng Kok Why worked as a home-tuition teacher and a part-time computer salesman while awaiting his SPM results. After completing SPM, he attended the Academy Tentera Udara test in Ipoh. In August 1998, he began his bachelor's degree at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang. During each semester break, he applied through PPD Ipoh to teach at secondary schools, ultimately teaching at five different schools in Ipoh. After graduating, he joined Multimedia University (MMU) as a tutor and pursued his master's degree there. Upon completing his master’s, he took an Industrial Attachment Leave to work as a research associate at the National University of Singapore (NUS). After completing the project at NUS, he returned to MMU to pursue his PhD.
Dr. Ng completed his PhD and actively involved in research and industrial application projects. Over his 24-year tenure at MMU, he has risen to the position of associate professor. MMU holds a special place in his heart, and he fondly considers it his second home.
A Personal Thought:
We all understand the dangers of staying in a "comfort zone." Stepping out of it doesn’t always require a change of environment—it’s about changing your mindset. To break free from the comfort zone, focus on these four principles: 努力 (hard work), 学习 (learning), 改变 (change), and 格局 (adaptability).
Why do some people fail to succeed? Because they don’t work hard enough (努力). Why do others work tirelessly but still struggle? Because they don’t learn effectively or strategically (学习). Why do some people acquire extensive knowledge yet fail to achieve success? Because they don’t take action or change their mindset (改变). Learning without action leads nowhere. And why do those who change their mindset and take action sometimes still fail? Because they don’t adapt to their environment (格局). They may lack awareness of the changes around them, leading to misaligned actions. Success often depends on sensitivity to your surroundings, enabling quick decisions and timely adjustments to seize opportunities.
So, how can you step out of your comfort zone in practice? Continuously try new things, such as exploring fresh ideas or starting new projects. Thank you.
