Biography
Mr. Hafiz completed his law degree at the International Islamic University, Malaysia (IIUM) in 1992 and subsequently graduated with a Master of Comparative Law (MCL) from the same university. Mr. Hafiz joined the legal practice upon his admission to the Malaysian Bar in 1993. His early legal work was in civil litigation but gradually included conveyancing, banking (conventional and Islamic) and corporate (joint venture) works. In later years, upon his obtaining a Diploma in Syariah & Legal Practice (DSLP) from IIUM in 1997, Mr. Hafiz joined the Syariah legal practice and practised as a Syariah Counsel in the Syariah Court.
Prior to joining Multimedia University (MMU), Mr. Hafiz was an Assistant Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) where he researched on comparative law and conflict of law. He joined the then Faculty of Business and Law (FBL), MMU as a lecturer in 2009. In 2011, he was appointed the Chairperson of the CLP committee where he attended to the visit by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB) for the review of the LL.B (Hons) programme. The programme has since been recognised by the LPQB without conditions. He then assumed the duties of Programme Coordinator for the LL.B (Hons) programme when the Faculty of Law (FOL) was established in 2013.
Mr. Hafiz has lectured at the Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM (part-time), Faculty of Business and Accountancy, INTI-UC (full-time) and UNITY College International (part-time). He has also written weekly to Berita Harian, a Malay language daily in Singapore on civil and Islamic law, and current issues. He has taught a wide range of law subjects such as Business Law, Company Law, Contract Law, Islamic Law, Legal Skills, Mooting, Professional Practice, Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure.
Mr. Hafiz currently lectures principally in Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure. His research areas of interest remain in comparative law and conflict of law.
