Biography
Dr, Bahma Sivasubramaniam is a Specialist with the Faculkty of Management, Multomedia University, Cyberjaya. She joined the University in 2006 upon her return from the United Kingdom where she did her Ph.D at the prestigious Durham University.
Dr. Bahma she graduated from University of London with an LL.B (Hons) (Lon) and from King's College London with an LL.M. She was admitted to the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn as a barrister-at-law. She returned to Malaysia and did her pupillage at the chambers of Datuk Gopal Sri Ram, former Judge of the Federal Court of Malaysia. She was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor. She was a litigation lawyer for 13 years and her practice was a hectic amd vibrant one. She specialised in commercial work, mainly family, banking and property matters as well as industrial relations and employment matters. She appeared in all the courts in the hioerarchyt of the courts in Malaysia including the Federal Court. Dr. Bahma also undertook cases on pro bono basis, through the Legal Aid system of the Bar Council of Malaysia. These cases were largely criminal in nature. During her years of practice Dr Bahma served on several committees of the Bar Council such as the Human Rights Committee, the Publications Committee and Charity and Welfare Committee. She served as the Editor of the publications of Bar Council, Insaf and Infoline. Dr. Bahma was also an elected member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee for three consecutive terms before she left practice,
She was a Chevening scholar and did her Ph D in International Criminal Law and Human Rights under the supervision of the legendary Professor Colin Warbrick.
She is a certified HRDF trainer and has conducted trainings both locally and internationally. She has worked with Non-Governmental Organisations and Governmental organisations on various legal issues. She has also worked with MCMC and continues to do so in her capacity as Programme Coordinator of the Masters in Telecommunications Policy and Regulations. She is a passionate advocate of empowerment through legal awareness.
Currently she is spearheading a research project on The Establishment of An Anti-Cyberbullying Law for Malaysia under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia.
In her spare time, Dr Bahma loves reading, music and cooking. She is an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club and a Queen and BB King fanatic.
