Dr. Shahid Kamal is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Multimedia University, Malaysia. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science with a specialization in Software Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in February 2016. His doctoral research, conducted under the Software Engineering Research Group (SERG), focused on "Spatial and Temporal Based Query Disambiguation for Improving Web Search." He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Gomal University, D.I. Khan, Pakistan (1999), and brings over 18 years of experience in teaching, academic research, and student mentorship. His research expertise spans Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Retrieval and Internet Computing, with a particular focus on API quality, web search query disambiguation, misinformation analysis, and the role of Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) in software systems.
Before joining Multimedia University, Dr. Shahid Kamal held academic and research roles in higher education institutions across Pakistan and China. He has authored a book, multiple book chapters, and over 30 peer-reviewed publications. His research focuses on NFRs, semantic search optimization, and quality-centric API frameworks. Dr. Kamal also serves as an Area Editor and reviewer for several ISI-indexed international journals.
