Julien Pierre is a lecturer in French language and culture whose teaching combines academic rigor with an unmistakable sense of play. Known for cultivating lively, intellectually curious classrooms, he places student engagement at the heart of his pedagogy. His expertise spans the structure, history, and pragmatics of the French language, though he cheerfully admits that even he cannot fully explain the more mysterious quirks of grammatical gender, a confession his students find oddly comforting.
Julien has been teaching at Multimedia University (MMU) since 2010, where he is recognized for his innovative digital pedagogy and his ability to design highly interactive learning environments. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Arts, and Culture, majoring in Arts of Entertainment, and is a specialist in Malaysian and Singaporean cinema from the golden era of 1948-1973.
He earned his Maîtrise in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) from the Université de Franche-Comté, France, with a focus on linguistic-educational policies and digital learning environments, a specialisation that directly informs his ongoing work in building micro-applications, role-play systems, and creative tools that make language learning both rigorous and joyful.
Julien serves as an examiner for the DELF, DALF, and TEF/TCF examinations in Malaysia and sits on the Malaysian national jury. He contributes to the development of French language education nationwide through teacher training, academic events, and active participation in professional networks.
