From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, KOK Siew Wai is a teaching-artist working with experimental video and music improvisation. She studied and lived in USA from 1998-2006, received her B.A. in Media Study at University at Buffalo, graduated with honours including the Dean’s Commencement Award in the Arts of College of Arts & Sciences and Outstanding Senior of Department of Media Study; and received her M.F.A. in Electronic Integrated Arts at Alfred University. Siew Wai has shown her art videos and performed in Asia, Europe and USA, participated in festivals such as CHOPPA Experimental Music Festival 2016 (Singapore), Asian Meeting Festival 2015 (Japan), Sound Bridge Contemporary Music Festival 2015 (Malaysia), Singapore International Film Festival 2015, International Film Festival Rotterdam 2007 (Netherlands) and many more. Siew Wai’s video text + vocal improvisation performance piece “Language of Self” (2015) was collected by the He Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen, China. She is often invited to speak as an artist/curator for experimental cinema including at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Art (China), Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art (Korea), Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology (India), City University of Hong Kong, Concordia University (Canada) and more. She’s currently teaching Film Study, Screenwriting and Final Year Project in the Animation and Visual Effects Programme at Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University.
